The group met the Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland who were lovely.

James, Joseph and Clare from Beechwood plus 2 staff members participated in the  ACTIVE SUNDERLAND BIG WALK, SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2015.

The walk began at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland and finished up at The Wetlands Centre in Washington a total of 6.5 miles.

There was an option of an extended walk of 11.5 miles which finished up at Herrington Park which we hope to do next year.

The aim of the walk is to encourage people across Wearside to ‘get active’, appreciate the quite beautiful riverside walks and even raise a little money for their chosen charities. We just did it for fun and fitness!!

Joseph said “I thought the Big Walk from Sunderland was good. I would like to do it again next year 2016 because I liked the exercise. It was fun”.

James said “The Big Walk was good, I liked the exercise and it made me feel happy and excited. I liked the company who walked with me. I hope to do it again next year, as it would be a shame if I didn’t. Can’t wait to do it next year”

Clare said “The Big Walk was great, super. I loved the exercise and it was a great sunny day. I also loved socialising with others it was nice. I definitely would do it again next year. I would love it if other units could join us on the walk next time”
