Chris Mitchell’s New Book

Autism Works Operational Manager Chris Mitchell has published his third book Mindful Living with Asperger’s Syndrome: Everyday Mindfulness Practices to help Tune into the Present Moment. Adapting techniques to the needs of people with Asperger’s Syndrome, from the eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction course (MSBR), which Chris completed in 2010, Chris hopes that his book will help to teach other people with Asperger’s Syndrome to live mindfully, moment by moment, thus helping relieve a lot of Asperger-related difficulties including stress, anxiety and depression by opening up to them through awareness.

Mindfulness practice is becoming increasingly recognised by healthcare providers, including within the NHS, as a way of coping with stress, anxiety and depression. Chris’s new book could be a useful resource for ESPA. The book has received some high profile endorsements, including Tony Attwood, author of The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome: ‘Chris Mitchell has authenticity in terms of knowing Asperger’s Syndrome from a personal perspective and from having himself experienced the benefits of mindfulness. Incorporating mindfulness in everyday life will have a positive effect on all the core characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome. Reading this book has the potential to be a life-changing experience for those who have Asperger’s Syndrome’.

Chris, who also provides training on Asperger’s Syndrome to ESPA staff, has also published Glass Half Empty, Glass Half Full (2005), an autobiography about his life with Asperger’s Syndrome, and Asperger’s Syndrome and Mindfulness: Taking Refuge in the Buddha (2009).
